Treatment Information:
2005 - Found a small tumor in the left leg
- Children's Hospital diagnosed the patient with Wilms tumor in the left kidney
- Doctors ordered an operation to remove the tumor
2005-2006 - Regularly check-up in the hospital
- The patient grew up normally
9/2007 - Found another Wilms tumor in the right kidney
- The patient underwent 3 courses of chemotherapy in Vietnam but the tumor size was not reduced
12/2007 Come to Singapore for appointment at National University Hospital (NUH)
1/2008 - Doctor in Singapore diagnosed that the tumor in right kidney developed long time ago but has not been found until recently
- Treatment protocol: 5 courses of chemotherapy in 5 weeks, then radiotherapy and operation to remove the tumor may be considered
2/2008 - Scanning the tumor shown that the tumor continued to grow in spite of last chemotherapy
- The next step is to apply 12 times of radiotherapy to the right and left abdomen, focusing on the right side.
- After radiotherapy, a test on the tumor will be done to decide whether to operate to remove the tumor or to continue chemotherapy
4/2008 - After few courses of chemotherapy, test result shown that the tumor in the right kidney did response with the anti-cancer drug
- The patient had no choice but to admit to hospital to remove the tumor in the right kidney
- At the moment, the patient had to stay in Intensive Care Unit to undergo dialysis
- After 2 weeks of testing dialysis by peritoneal dialysis (PD), the result was good. The family decided to purchase a PD machine to use at home in Vietnam
5/2008 - The family went back to Vietnam. The patient's condition was stabilized and will received dialysis everyday at home.
