Little Co was introduced to GFO in March 2008.
Treatment Information:
6/2007 - Parents found a hard tumor in abdominal area. After MRI, doctor in Vietnam concluded that the patient was suffered from liver tumor
- In Vietnam, he has gone through 2 operations to remove the tumor and few cycles of chemotherapy; however, the tumor did not response with anti-cancerous drugs
2/2008 - Patient arrived in Singapore and had treatment in National University Hospital (NUH)
- The treatment protocol is: patient will undergo through 3 cycles of chemotherapy. Each cycle will last for 3 weeks and includes 3 times of chemotherapy. After that, the patient will be checked again and considered to be operated to remove the tumor
3/2008 - Patient was underwent through the first cycle of chemotherapy
- Patient was in good condition and good appetite
4/2008 - Ultrasound scan shown that the tumor did not increase in size nor spread out. This indicated that the anti-cancer drug works.
- Patient's AFP indicator increased but doctor thought it was just fluctuated during the chemotherapy. However, doctor will keep a close eye on AFP indicator.
- The patient finished the first cycle of chemotherapy. Side effect: rashes.
5/2008 - Doctor noticed that the chemotherapy only helped the tumor not increase in size nor spread out but the drug could not make the tumor totally disappear.
- The next treatment protocol will be to operate to remove the tumor. However, the tumor has spread to many parts of the liver, leading to the need of a liver transplant. The donor will be the patient's father.
- The family was researching about process and cost of liver transplant in Vietnam. In the mean time, the patient continued to receive 1 cycle of chemotherapy which lasts for 5 weeks to control the tumor.
- The family planned to go back to Singapore in early June.
6/2008 - Patient was current in Vietnam and waiting for liver transplant. In the mean time, the patient took an oral anti-cancer table to control the tumor.
- However, doctor suggested that the patient needs to have a liver transplant asap.
